Description

Director of Human Resources

Chilliwack, BC | On-Site, Permanent | $120,000 – $170,000

ABOUT THE COMPANY

This is not your typical HR posting. The company behind this role is a high-growth, operationally complex business in a dynamic, seasonal industry, with a workforce that scales from 500 to over 1,000 employees across multiple provinces. They are in the middle of an ambitious 2x growth plan and they are building the people infrastructure to get there.

The culture here is real. Leadership is serious about values, accountability, and building something that lasts. They expect high standards, and operate with a level of candour and intention that sets this workplace apart from most. If you have ever wanted to step into a role where your work genuinely moves a company forward, this is it.

THE OPPORTUNITY

As Director of Human Resources, you will serve as a trusted strategic partner to the executive team while also rolling up your sleeves to build, coach, and run a high-performing HR function. This is a rare seat at the table for an HR leader who is equally energized by long-term people strategy and the day-to-day work of making it real.

You will directly lead an HR and recruitment team. You will own workforce planning, performance culture, compliance, onboarding systems, and talent acquisition at scale. And you will do it all while operating as a genuine business partner throughout the company.

This role is for the HR leader who does not want to sit behind a policy manual. You will be visible, relationship-driven, and trusted across every level of the business.

WHAT YOU WILL OWN

People Strategy and Organizational Design
  • Lead workforce planning in direct alignment with the 2x growth objective
  • Design and operationalize an HR model with dedicated business partnership across functions
  • Own succession planning, role structure, and total compensation programming
  • Serve as a trusted advisor on org design, spans of control, and team configuration

Performance Culture and Leadership Development
  • Define and embed manager expectations and leadership competencies across the organization
  • Build a coaching culture grounded in consistent feedback, structured conversations, and practical development
  • Design and deliver leadership development programming from frontline supervisors to senior leaders
  • Lead engagement and retention strategies with real follow-through on findings

Risk, Policy, and Compliance
  • Establish a policy framework that gives managers clear decision authority and reduces escalations
  • Ensure compliance with employment standards and human rights legislation across all provinces
  • Develop investigation and escalation protocols that are consistent, fair, and well-documented

Operational Excellence and Cross-Functional Alignment
  • Build scalable onboarding and talent acquisition systems capable of supporting 500 to 1,000+ employees
  • Own HR reporting and metrics including turnover, time-to-fill, engagement, and absenteeism
  • Partner closely with the Temporary Foreign Worker program manager and cross-functional leaders
  • Set HR service standards and response commitments that give the business reliable support

People Leadership of the HR Team
  • Directly lead and coach the HR team, recruitment team, and Health and Safety Coordinator
  • Create individual development plans and build each person's confidence and capability
  • Model the same leadership standards the HR function promotes across the broader organization
  • Manage team workload proactively, anticipating seasonal surges before bottlenecks form

WHO YOU ARE

You are a builder. You have done this before at scale, and you know what it takes to move from strategy to execution without losing either. People trust you quickly because you listen first, speak directly, and follow through every time. You are energized by a fast-moving, operationally complex environment and you do not need perfect conditions to do great work.

You are equally at home in a boardroom conversation and walking a production floor. You bring HR out of the back office and into the real work of the business, and your team grows because of how you lead them.

You bring:
  • 7+ years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior HR leadership role
  • Demonstrated experience scaling HR infrastructure in high-volume, seasonal, or variable workforce environments
  • A proven track record of leading and developing HR teams with genuine capability-building focus
  • Working knowledge of employment standards across multiple Canadian provinces
  • Familiarity with Temporary Foreign Worker programs or high-volume agricultural labour is a strong asset
  • CPHR designation (Chartered Professional in Human Resources) strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms and a comfort with evolving tech stacks

THE IDEAL PERSON
  • Strategic partner who understands operational realities before co-creating solutions
  • Natural relationship builder who earns trust quickly across all levels and functions
  • High doer who does not delegate their way out of accountability
  • Coach, not controller, who builds capability in others rather than dependence on HR
  • Transparent communicator who delivers difficult messages directly and follows through
  • Seasonally aware and able to adapt priorities to the rhythm of a high-growth business
  • Pragmatic builder who creates systems that work, not systems that impress

COMPENSATION AND DETAILS
  • Salary range: $120,000 to $170,000 based on experience
  • Full-time, permanent, exempt position
  • On-site in Chilliwack, BC, required (this is a relationship role and presence matters)
  • Monday to Friday with flexibility during peak operational periods
  • Intermittent travel within provinces of operation
